No, your eyes are not deceiving you, Richmond does, in fact, have a fashion week, but do we actually have fashion?  That remains to be seen, but based on some of the pictures, it is a definite possibility.  This year is the 2nd annual Richmond Fashion Week.   The event was started last year by a VCU student who had interned with a famous designer in New York City.  Now, Richmond Fashion Week is used as an exciting way to showcase some of Richmond’s top fashion and entertainment.  This year the show has a diverse group of local designers, national designers, boutiques, and larger stores.   I know it’s already Thursday, but don’t worry, there are still several events  scheduled and some tickets are available online

Tonight, Thursday, at 7:30 will be the “Hollywood in Richmond” show.  This show will feature vintage, classic looks representative of Richmond’s rich history and bright future.  The designs will be by Michael Taylor, Laurianda, Cache, Lex’s of Carytown, Dillards, Vaquerano,  and First Republic.  The show will be held at Center Stage – Rhythm Hall, 600 East Grace Street Richmond, VA  23219.   You do have to buy tickets.  General Admission is $20.00, Student Admission is $15.00.

On Friday, April 23, 2010  there will be the “Crossing the Line” Charity Fashion Show. This show will be held at Crittenden Studio, 201 West 7th St.  Tickets are pricier for this one, $45/ticket ; $80/couple, but all proceeds go to benefit the VCU Massey Cancer Center.  The theme of the show is “Grecian Influences” and will feature styles from local boutiques along with unique design concepts from VCU fashion design students.  The reception will feature catering provided by Six Burner, Buckheads, Libbie Market, and Gearharts Chocolate.  Live music will be performed by Charles Arthur and Roger Carroll of Chez Roue.  The reception begins at 6:30 and the show starts at 7:30.  You can get more information on this event and purchase tickets here.

On Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. there will be the Monumental Fashion Show featuring looks and designs by United colors of Benetton, Peyton Hall, First Republic, Anthropologie , Buckle, Turnstyle, 2khAAT, Britt Sebastien, Inch by Inch Fashions, MarinaASTA, Bits n Pieces, and Eurotrash.  The description for this show is “Expect a mix of glamour, edge and chic.”  This show will be held at the Hat Factory, 140 Virginia Street Richmond, VA 23219.  VIP Admission (which includes a reception before the show) is $20.00, general admission is $10.00, student admission is $5.00, and standing room admission is $5.00.

They definitely sounds like some unique and fun events, but it begs the question, what the heck do you where to a fashion show so you don’t look like a complete slob?  Any ideas are much appreciated!
